Four men from Spelthorne and north Runnymede have been given more than ten years in jail collectively for their involvement in a street brawl in Staines last year.

Kevin Kurlej, 22, from Cordelia Road, Stanwell, Samuel Tite, 26, of Oakley Mill House, Thorpe, John Murphy, 23, of the Nightingales, Staines and Nicholas Fitzpatrick, 24, of White Hill Place, Virginia Water were given 30, 40, 40, and 18 months in jail respectively for being involved in a mass brawl when they appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Friday (January 5).

A petition has been launched to try and stop the potential loss of Stanwell's community warden Mick Raynor.

The petition has been created by Vicki Kapoor Sood, a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator of Hadfield Road, who believes the town will suffer with the loss of his role, stating that Stanwell is becoming forgotten after the loss of Spelthorne crimed reduction officer Vic Smith last year.

Police were in the 'right time at the right place' when they spotted a just stolen van being led away by a thief.

At 1.45am on Monday (January 8) morning the police saw a white Ford Transit van being driven near Hadrian Way, and ordered the driver to stop.

But instead the driver fled, and although the police could not find him, upon investigation they realised the van had just been stolen from the road.

Neighbourhood watch signs are to be installed in Stanwell thanks to a resident of the town.

Vicki Kapoor Sood, applied to the BT Community Champions award and was given £150 to be used for Spelthorne Neighbourhood Watch.

The money was given as Mrs Kapoor Sood is a BT worker, and the scheme gives money to community groups.

Linda Kempton, of Spelthorne NHW, said: "This award is greatly appreciated as it enables us to buy NHW signs for new watches that have been set up in Stanwell, therefore making people aware they are entering an NHW area and encouraging others to join."

Community leaders in Stanwell have hit out at the possible loss of their community warden.

Spelthorne Council announced last week that Mick Rayner's post as the community warden for Stanwell is being reviewed.

STAINES police constables could be sharing office space with Spelthorne Council's offices by the beginning of April.

A public consultation was launched on Friday (29) to find out resident's opinions on possible station closures, but the force is currently looking at merging neighbourhood teams with the council offices, in Knowle Green, due to the cutting of the forces budget last year.

Builders are about to start work on a £50 million regeneration project of a run-down estate in Stanwell.

Construction will begin in mid-February for the first phase of Stanwell New Start, where 52 new homes will built over houses that were demolished last year.
