Police in £3m drugs swoop

Posted by Graham Spence on Jul 11, 08 03:19 PM in Crime

POLICE say they have dealt a blow to drug-dealing after swooping on a block of flats in Stanwell and recovering a major haul of class A drugs.

In a separate incident, a Staines man has been charged with drug smuggling after cocaine worth £2.8m was recovered at the port of Newhaven, in East Sussex on Monday.

Geoffrey Slade, 48, of Penton Hook Farm, appeared before Brighton Magistrates' Court yesterday (Tuesday) and was remanded in custody until Monday.

Three people were arrested during the raid on the Stanwell flats.

About 35 police officers swooped on four homes in Bristol Court at 2.15pm on Wednesday last week and seized what they call a "significant quantity of suspected class A drugs".

They arrested one man aged 24 and another aged 28 on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. A 20-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of theft.

All three were released on police bail until Wednesday, August 27.

A third man, who was seen jumping out of a second-floor window, was also arrested but later released.

Detective Inspector Derrick Laing, who led the Stanwell operation, said: "This was a pleasing result for police and. importantly, for the Stanwell community. We acted on intelligence from residents and information we had received to take proactive steps to disrupt the use of and sale of drugs."
