299 home development is 'ludicrous'
A 299 home development proposed for Green Belt land in Stanwell is 'ludicrous,' according to residents determined for it to fail.
The plan to concrete almost five acres of open space next to Long Lane recreation ground is almost certain to be refused by Spelthorne Council on Wednesday August 20 as they have pledged to reject applications for Green Belt land.
Planning officers have recommended the proposal be rejected but neighbours fear it may be passed on appeal to the Government and say the consultation has slipped under the radar of local people.
June Thomson, of Long Lane, said: "The idea of putting almost 300 houses in that field is just ludicrous. There's too much development here already and the last thing we want is to lose one of the last bits of open place in Stanwell.
"The biggest problem here is no one seems to have heard about it so there's very little in terms of a campaign but if they knew what was going on they would be furious."
