Welding hell

Posted by Hannah Webster on Nov 7, 08 11:06 AM in Local Authority

A fire erupted at the Virgin Atlantic cargo terminal in Bedfont Road, Stanwell, when some welding work led to rubbish being set alight.

A plate which had been welded to the ground was loose and being welded to the floor again at about 11.35am on Thursday November 6 when the rubbish which had collected underneath caught fire.

A Staines firefighter who went out to the blaze said the plate was there to cover up hole left by a hoist was removed about eight years ago.

Two fire engines, from Staines and Sunbury, went out to the blaze but had to wait for an engineer to arrive to prize the plate from the floor before they could access the fire to put it out.

We'd like to hear from you.
