The Rotary Club of Ashford brought in a record collection of £8,849 this year through their Christmas float touring the streets of Ashford and Stanwell.

The float had to be replaced after it was destroyed by arsonists last year and a replacement was bought through donations from local councillors, businesses and residents.

And the Rotarians were delighted after beating their previous best of £8,756 last year.

Firefighters released a driver who was trapped after two cars collided on Wednesday, December 14, on the M25 between junctions 14 at Stanwell Moor and 13 at Staines at about 7.50pm.

The driver of a silver Ford Focus had to be cut free following the crash with a grey BMW 325i. Both motorists sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
The anticlockwise carriageway was shut for about an hour while the vehicles were cleared causing congestion in the area.

Surrey and Met police joined forces to try and locate two possible car thieves, who fled the scene of a collision on the northbound M25, between junctions 13 and 14, on Monday, January 5 at about 1.53pm.

A grey Honda S2000 sports car was in minor collision with a white heavy goods vehicle, before colliding with the central reservation.

Spelthorne Council will be donating its extra revenue from car parking following the 2.5% cut in VAT to charity.

Motorists were not passed on the Government cut due to the cost and difficulty of making the changes and the council has made an additional contribution to make up a £22,000 kitty.
