A mother of two has had to bathe in cold water without heating after saying her housing provider left her with a broken boiler for six weeks.

Twenty-three-year-old Natalie Hedges, of Vernon Close, Stanwell, called A2 Dominion in the middle of February because her boiler didn't produce hot water.

A gipsy family has applied to Spelthorne Council for planning permission to keep their caravan on a site off Park Road, Stanwell.

The Beach family have occupied the site since 2007 and want to keep their mobile home, touring caravan, hardstanding, septic tank, shed and wendy house on the land behind School House until a new site is found for them.

Litter bugs will face on-the-spot fines of up to £80 in Spelthorne from April 1.

The borough's two street scene officers and the Stanwell community warden will have the power to dish out fixed penalty notices to anyone tossing away chewing gum, cigarette butts or any other rubbish.

Free swimming at public pools in Spelthorne will be available to youngsters aged 16 and under and anyone over 60 from April 1.

The initiative is being promoted by the borough authority in partnership with Runnymede Council and Sport and Leisure Management Ltd, which manages the two council-owned leisure centre pools in Spelthorne.

The inaugural Spelthorne Junior Chess Championships will be held on Saturday, March 14 at Staines Prep School in Gresham Road, Staines.

There are three age categories - under 9s, under 11s and under 14s - and entrants must either live in Spelthorne or attend a school in the borough.
