Florist in war with Spelthorne parking warden
A florist claims she is being unfairly targeted by an Eastern European traffic warden employed by Spelthorne Council.
Jane Sexton, owner of Snowdrops of Stanwell, in the town's High Street, has said for the past nine months she has been targeted by the man.
Shoppers cannot park outside due to the double yellow lines, but Spelthorne Council have said leeway is given to traders loading and unloading each day.
But Mrs Sexton says the warden constantly tells her to move her car minutes after parking, and when other cars nearby are parked on the double yellow lines.
She said: "Just the other day I parked outside to unload when the warden came up to me and asked me to move my car. But there were probably ten to 15 other cars parked nearby on the yellow lines. Nothing was done about them.
"I am just trying to run a business but this person is making it very difficult."
Mrs Sexton parks her car in a friends driveway while she works, but she has to unload each day as she buys her flowers from a daily market.
She said: "I have spoken to another traffic warden who off the record told me that I am being picked on. I am only bringing this to the public attention because it has been going on for nine months."
A spokeswoman for Spelthorne Council said: "In terms of parking enforcement cars and lorries are not allowed to park on double yellow lines. Limited leeway (usually ten minutes) is given for unloading where appropriate.
"Staff patrol Stanwell, and as with other locations in the borough, enforce parking restrictions on yellow lines.
"However, they act in a professional manner and apply their attention equally to those who are not obeying the law.
"However, if this lady has a specific complaint and would like to contact us we would be happy to investigate in detail."
