Two arrested after police search
Two people were arrested on suspicion of theft of a car after failing to stop by the police during a motoring campaign.
Surrey Police held an operation as part of their year-long Drive SMART campaign with Surrey County Council to cut down on anti-social behaviour around Spelthorne on Friday October 23.
Just after 9pm a silver Ford Galaxy failed to stop for policemen, and following a large search the vehicle was located on the hard shoulder of the M25 near Junction 14.
A 68-year-old woman from Cardiff and a 20-year-old man from Leatherhead were arrested for suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and failing to stop for police.
They were both released on bail until November 24 while investigations continue.
Inspector Chris Colley, of the roads policing unit (RCU), said: "Anti-social driving, such as tail gaiting, speeding, and drunk driving, is the most common issue raised at neighbourhood meetings and the recent operation involved five unmarked roads policing unit cars with a roads policing driver and an officer from the local safer neighbourhood team on board."
Officers from the RCU and SCC stopped a total of 37 vehicles and issued eleven fixed penalty notices for various offences, including using a mobile phone while driving, having no MOT, failing to wear a seatbelt, and speeding.
One person was arrested for drink driving and seven drivers were given verbal warnings for a range of offences.
