Staines and Stanwell gardens get a make-over

Volunteer gardeners from British Gas have made the lives of two elderly residents better.

Sixteen workers from the company were given paid leave for two days each to cut shrubs, build fences, and paint shed in the gardens of two elderly people in their 80s in Stanwell and Staines.

The work was organised by Age Concern Spelthorne, who care for OAPs in the borough and try and keep them as independent as possible without going into care homes.

Debbie Fuller, of Age Concern, said: "These elderly people were no longer physically able to care for their gardens.

"It was difficult to bear because they had tended for their gardens their whole lives, so to look out and see them as a mess was difficult."

Ms Fuller said Age Concern were also concerned that the messy states of the gardens could have led the residents to become targets for burglaries and cold-callers.

British Gas paid for all materials, and Age Concern Spelthorne would like to thank them for their time.

We'd like to hear from you.
