Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Staines News would like to wish its readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The chief executive of Spelthorne Council has said he is 'extremely disheartened' after the authority received an 'adequate' independent review by the Audit Commission.

Roberto Tambini has hit out at new website OnePlace, who assess local authorities and combines views of six independent inspectorates, which include the Audit Commission, Ofsted, and the Care Quality Commission.

Seven drivers were arrested during an 11 day crackdown in Spelthorne to target distraction burglars.

The worst flooding since 2003 has hit Staines Moor, trapping animals and water logging gardens and allotments.

Residents living near the moor started seeing the water rise on Monday Novmember 30 but by Thursday December 3 it was 12 inches deep in places and flooding gardens in Gloucester Drive.

A female fire fighter has started in Staines fire station.

Lucy Turner started on Thursday November 26 after a formal graduation ceremony following a 10 week training regime called the Foundation Firefighters Course
